Northeastern Oregon is one of the most attractive rural areas in the Pacific
Northwest. Snow-capped mountains, vast forests, churning rivers, rocky
cliffs, sage-covered hills, fertile farmlands, and friendly towns: it has them
all! Nestled between the rolling wheat fields of the Columbia River Plateau
and the peaks of the Blue Mountains, the skies are wide and blue, and
beautiful scenery unfolds around every bend in the road. Each town has a lot
to offer, including affordable housing, schools that still focus on education,
and safe streets. The National Forests, lakes, and rivers provide some of the
best biking, hiking, skiing, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, camping, and
sightseeing opportunities in the state.
Current Ranch Operations
Irrigation – The meadows located at the McKay Creek headquarters are sprinkler irrigated with water
sourced from three new irrigation wells that are linked together for backup redundancy. In addition to the
well water, the ranch has adjudicated free flow water rights from McKay Creek, if needed on a
supplemental basis.
Livestock – The owners currently run a well-known and respected Simmental/Angus hybrid bull program,
in conjunction with a commercial cow/calf operation. In addition to the deeded property, the cattle are
grazed on approximately 6,500 acres of adjoining range land that is leased on a long-term basis.
Haying – Hay is produced at both the McKay Creek headquarters location and the mountain ranch
location. Currently there are approximately 400 acres of meadow in grass hay production.
